Itinerary
Day 01: Arrive In Ghana
Arrive in Ghana at Kotoka International airport, clear immigration then you will meet your guide. Should it be that your flight arrives at night there will be snacks waiting to fill any stomach which is empty. We will get on our bus and drive straight to our hotel for the night. We would not spend much time on briefings and allow you to check in and settle in for the night. We will have welcome drinks in the evening where we get to meet our in-country trip leaders as well as everyone on this trip with us.
Day 02: Explore Accra
We will spend the entire day exploring Accra. We will visit the Independence Square, the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum which is the final resting place of the first president of Ghana. We will also visit the Makola market. We will have a tour of the historical James town. We will have lunch then go to W.E.B Du Bois Memorial Centre which is a Pan-African Culture research facility. We will also learn about the American sociologist, socialist, historian, civil rights activist, Pan-Africanist, author, writer and Editor.
Day 03: Transfer to project site
Shortly after breakfast, we will be transferred to our project site or community. Upon arrival there will be a welcome ceremony to welcome us into the community. Afterwards there will be an in country induction to help you understand what to expect in the next few days.
Day 04: Project
Full day on a project or volunteering site.
Day 05: Workshop in the morning/African Naming Ceremony
Project in the morning/Workshop in the afternoon. Workshop could be bead making, mask making, batik tye & dye, African drum and dance, cooking workshop etc.
Day 06: Travel to Cape Coast or via Assin Manso
We will connect to history today. We will visit the Cape Coast and Elmina Castle enroute Assin Manso Slave market which is the last place the slaves had their final bath before they were shipped to the unknown world from the slave dungeons. From here we will proceed to Cape Coast where we visit the slave dungeons and the ‘door of return’. We will check in our accommodation before dark and also have an evening review of the day and moments of reflections.
Day 07: Travel to Emina via Kakum Canopy Walk and Rainforest
We will go on the next step of our journey. We will proceed to Kakum National Park, one of the few existing canopies walkways in the world. We will visit the canopy walk and after the tour at the rainforest we head to Elmina, Ghana’s top most historical destination. In Elmina we will visit the Elmina slave dungeon, the oldest European building in existence below the Sahara, the Fort Jago, and the salt mining village.
Day 08: Project day in the morning
Visit Chief Palace and home visit. Also Project Day – Cultural and historical immersion
Day 09-10: Workshop
School visit/Community Project
Day 11: Travel to Nzulenzu and Busua Beach – Rest & Relaxation
Learn about the village that was built on water and the tribe that lives there. Then spend the rest f your afternoon relaxing at the beach
Day 12: Excursions
Excursions in the project region. For example, if we are in Volta we can climb Afadjato or go to the falls. Do a picnic lunch at the falls, take a swim and cool off
Day 13: Workshop/Farewell Workshop in the morning
Workshop could be bead making, mask making, batik tye & dye, African drum and dance, cooking workshop etc. Later in the day there will be a farewell ceremony. In the evening we will have a buffet dinner and congratulate ourselves for taking this impactful journey
Day 14: Depart
Depart Home – Airport- Based on your departure time, we will drop you off in time so you can catch your flight without any stress.
Rates
Amounts listed are per person. Prices are subjected to changes at any moment if there is a rise in park entry fees, or changes in accommodation but in cases like that, we will inform the clients/agent as early as possible.
Lodges, hotels, and tented camps base their prices on double occupancy and charge an additional fee for solo travelers. If you are traveling alone but would like to share a room/tent, every effort will be made to match you with a roommate. You will be charged for the single occupancy, but refunded if you are matched with a roommate.
